With service at over one-hundred sites across New York City spanning multiple providers, a large not-for-profit required an inventory and validation of all telecom invoices and services. As well as verifying the accuracy of all billing, the client was seeking opportunities for savings.

Result: Using inventory mapping all services (voice or data), locations, carriers, and vendors were catalogued. This report benchmarked all existing billing and served as a road map for identifying  savings opportunities, migration, and upgrade initiatives. Usage analysis performed against all traditional voice circuits identified a large quantity of unnecessary lines and closed locations that should be eliminated. Also, a major area of opportunity was identified in rerating essential services to discount plans. As a result, the total annual savings against traditional voice service exceeded 50 percent.

The wireless audit findings revealed the client’s staff had several different rate plans. Most employee service allowances were oversubscribed compared to usage. Across the entire staff, it was identified that four different types of voice plans, seven unique data plans, and seven message plans existed. Using data gathered from a 12-month wireless study and trend analysis, a new wireless policy was created. It was approved by the client’s executive team for use immediately. In addition, all plans were optimized to match the new policy and usage allowance. The result was a 24 percent annual savings on wireless costs.

The funding arm of a global not-for-profit helping to save and protect children requested an audit of all voice billing charges. The client was considering a technology transformation to migrate all traditional voice service to VoIP. Before making this change, the non-profit sought an accurate inventory and financial cost analysis of all existing voice services.

Result: Using inventory mapping, it was uncovered that the client had been paying for non-working voice services for the past six years. It was discovered that the client had moved several years ago, and the migration of services was mishandled by the carrier. The result was several major billing errors and potential business continuity and disaster recovery vulnerabilities to the client’s network. According to the non-profit, the amount the carrier mistakenly billed and collected would have provided enough measles vaccine to prevent the deaths and disabilities of more than 333,000 children from this fatal disease. After several discussions with the carrier’s billing team, service delivery team, technical team, legal team and General Counsel, overpayment was recouped for the client.

In addition, the review identified the client was only using 47 percent of its voice numbers at one of its national locations. Last, a contract review helped the client with getting extra credit because of service disruptions and delayed restoration from Super Storm Sandy. Post-audit and contract review, the client was positioned to move forward with its technology transformation.

Building demolition caused the destruction of carrier network facilities and adversely impacted the telecom network of several midtown Manhattan businesses including a prestigious private not-for-profit club. The club later upgraded its network from traditional services to a fiber solution; however, the client could not dial internationally on many critical lines. After several months of working with the carrier account team to no avail, the client enlisted aid.

Result:  The carrier was engaged to identify the technical issue that was preventing the client from making outbound international calls. Besides the technical issue, there was also an underlying billing issue that needed resolution. Working with the carrier’s order management, account, and provisioning team the client’s long-distance access was restored.
